CHRISTMAS SERVICE AT HOME  (12/24-25, 2020)

Prayer of Pope Francis:  O god, open our hearts to receive the grace of this season, which is Christ himself, whom you have revealed to the entire world. Where God is born, hope is born. Where God is born, peace is born. And where peace is born, there is no longer room for hatred and for war. You alone can save us and free us from the many forms of evil and selfishness in our midst. Let us welcome into our lives your mercy, which Jesus Christ has bestowed on us, so that we in turn can show mercy to our brothers and sisters. In this way, we will make peace grow!   Amen

  Gospel: from Luke 2:15-20

When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayers of the Faithful can be said and shared for loved ones, for those who are sick, the dying, the success of the vaccine for Covid-19, for those who are alone and isolated, for those not with us because of travel restrictions, for an increase in vocations, for those without employment, for peace in the world and in families, and other family intentions.

The Blessing of the Crib

God of every nation and people,

from the very beginning of creation

you have made manifest your love:

when our need for a Savior was great

you sent your Son to be born of the Virgin Mary.

To our lives He brings joy and peace,

justice, mercy, and love.

Lord,

bless all who look upon this manger;

may it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus,

and raise up our thoughts to him,

who is God-with-us and Savior of all,

and who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Amen.

Closing Song: O Come All Ye Faithful  (see attached words)

‘Silent Night’

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright

Round you Virgin, Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night                                                                     Silent Night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight                                                            Son of God, love’s pure light
Glories stream from heaven afar                                                      Radiant beams from Thy holy face

Heavenly hosts sing ‘Alleluia                                                          With the dawn of redeeming grace
Christ the Savior is born                                                                   Jesus Lord, at Thy birth
Christ the Savior is born                                                                   Jesus Lord, at Thy birth.

‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord!

Sing choirs of angels, sing in exultation,

Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God
All glory in the highest
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord!

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning
Jesus, to Thee be glory given
Word of the Father
Now in flesh appearing
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord!
